While the New England clam chowder ($6.95) at Sage American Grill and Oyster
Bar (100 S. Water St., 203-787-3466, sageamerican.com) is a traditional
chowder, it¹s not so thick that you can stand up your spoon in the bowl.
The creamy broth is full of silky smooth potato chunks, slices of celery and
translucent onions. There¹s also a hint of dill in there. And, of course,
there are large, fresh, pink-as-salmon oysters. How fresh are they? Let¹s
just say I found a few grits of sand in my last slurp from the bowl.

Never knew that New England CLAM Chowder was made with oysters. Are you sure you weren't enjoying Oyster Stew?
